Meet Clark. Like Lewis and Clark, this little explorer traveled a pretty far distance on an adventure that led her to be an unclaimed stray. Through our work on Lost and Found Pets of Greater Lafayette, she was spotted at the very end of June on the outskirts of TIppecanoe County. She was terrified and wouldn't come to anyone. She was reported seen again a day or two later and then we heard nothing else. A week later and about 8 miles further down the road, she was seen darting around scared, hungry, and looking for food. This little sweetie was outside and alone through extreme heat, fireworks, and storms. She had crossed highways and was too close to the interstate for comfort. She had no ID tags or microchip.
The lovely ladies at Loving Heart spotted her and we worked together using a live trap to get her to safety. Ultimately, she was right on the city and county line. She was reported found to both city and county entities, and knowing that both facilities were overcrowded we felt this girl needed some time to decompress from her adventure during the worst week of the year to be a stray. She was placed in foster.
Clark is a 1 year old, mixed breed female. She weighs about 30 pounds. She loves other dogs, big and small, young and old, and will likely need to be in a home with another dog. She loves to sleep on bed with her humans and is very affectionate and cuddly. She enjoys being in a fenced yard and we will require a fence in her future home so that she will be at less risk of ever becoming stray again. Clark is gentle and quiet. She rarely makes noise, but does hate to be alone. We imagine that this will get better and better, it is already much improved as she has adjusted to her foster home.
We believe Clark will be good with children who are respectful and gentle with animals. We also feel she may be fine with cats, although it's just a guess. Clark is trustworthy to be left out anytime you are home and is not destructive. She does not love to be crated, but will settle after a few minutes. This is improving and seems to be better as long as she has a companion like another dog nearby. It also helps to leave the TV on for her.
Clark would love owners who have flexible schedules where they can check on her and let her out mid-day so she is not crated continuously through the work week. If you are interested in Clark and can provide a home with a dog buddy and a fenced yard, she is a fantastic girl who would make any family lucky to have her.
Clark is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped. and heartworm negative. Please complete an application on our website at /adopting. Her adoption fee is $150.
